Seasonal Pricing Guide: Texas to Colorado
Texas to Colorado carries two seasonal peaks: a ski-destination surge in November–December and a summer PCS and relocation peak in June–August. October and early November offer the best value.
| Period | Season | What to Expect | Booking Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan – Feb | Peak Ski Season / Mountain Pass Risk | January and February are peak ski season for Colorado mountain resort deliveries, driving elevated demand for Vail, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, and Telluride. Denver and Colorado Springs deliver normally. Raton Pass (I-25, NM/CO border, 7,834 ft) and Vail Pass (I-70, 10,662 ft) can close for commercial trucks during winter storms — add 1–2 day transit buffer for mountain resort and Grand Junction deliveries via these passes. Texas pickup January–February: DFW occasional ice events — 1-day pickup buffer. |
Elevated demand for mountain resort CO deliveries. Book 7–10 days ahead. TX pickup January–February: no heat protocol; DFW ice events possible — 1-day buffer. CO delivery Vail/Aspen/Steamboat: 1–2 day transit buffer for pass closures. Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Pueblo delivery: standard transit. Military with February Fort Carson or Peterson SFB report dates: Rush. |
| Mar – May | Spring Ramp / Late Pass Season | March brings declining ski season demand and rising corporate relocation bookings. Military PCS movers from Fort Cavazos (Killeen) and JBSA with May–June Fort Carson or Peterson report dates begin booking March–April. Texas spring pickup (March–May) is excellent at all origins; DFW severe weather April–May may cause brief 1-day staging delays. March–April at Colorado mountain pass deliveries: Raton Pass and Vail Pass closures still possible through April — 1-day buffer recommended for resort deliveries. |
Moderate rising demand. Book 7–10 days ahead. TX pickup March–May: excellent, no heat protocol. DFW April–May severe weather: 1-day buffer. CO delivery March–April mountain resorts: 1-day pass-closure buffer. May CO delivery: excellent statewide. Military from Fort Cavazos with May–June Fort Carson report dates: Expedited. |
| Jun – Aug | Summer Corporate & PCS Peak | June through August is the corridor’s highest-demand period. Military PCS from Fort Cavazos (Killeen, TX) to Fort Carson (Colorado Springs) and from JBSA (San Antonio) to Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, and Buckley SFB peaks June–August. Corporate relocations of Texas technology, energy, and finance professionals accepting Denver positions coincide. Colorado summer delivery is excellent statewide; no heat protocol at any Colorado destination. |
Peak demand. Book 10–14 days ahead. TX pickup June–September: quarter tank, no personal items, no medications, no electronics — applies at ALL Texas origins. CO delivery June–August: excellent statewide, no heat protocol. Military from Fort Cavazos or JBSA with firm Fort Carson, Peterson SFB, or Schriever SFB report dates: Rush. TX tech professionals with fixed Denver employment start: Expedited. |
| Sep – Oct | Best Value Window Opens | September through October is the best value window. Military PCS has peaked, summer corporate demand has settled, and ski season has not started. Colorado fall foliage season (late September–mid-October) drives light recreational traffic to mountain towns but does not significantly affect carrier availability. Texas heat protocol applies through September; October pickup at all Texas origins is excellent with no restrictions. Colorado delivery September–October: excellent statewide; no mountain pass concerns September–October. |
Best value. Book 5–7 days ahead. TX pickup September: heat protocol still active — quarter tank, no personal items, no electronics. TX pickup October: no restrictions, excellent statewide. CO delivery September–October: excellent. Late October mountain resort delivery: check Raton Pass/Vail Pass forecast. Standard tier appropriate for flexible timelines October. |
| Nov – Dec | Ski Season Pre-Load / Pass Weather Begins | November brings two competing forces: low corporate demand (a value signal) and rising ski country demand (Vail, Aspen, Steamboat Springs resorts open late November). DFW and Houston executives shipping luxury SUVs to Colorado ski country second homes — typically enclosed transport — create a November premium for mountain resort delivery zones. Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Pueblo deliveries remain standard value November–December. Raton Pass closures become a real factor November–December for south-Texas-origin routes using I-25N. |
Moderate demand; mountain resort deliveries elevated. Book 7–10 days ahead. TX November pickup: excellent, no restrictions. CO Denver/CS/Fort Collins delivery: standard. CO mountain resort (Vail/Aspen/Steamboat) delivery: 1–2 day pass-closure buffer November onward; enclosed transport for high-value vehicles to ski country. Holiday gap December 15–January 5: Expedited for firm December CO delivery. Ski-country second-home moves: plan for late November at earliest to beat ski-opener congestion. |
Who Ships a Car from Texas to Colorado — and Why
Military PCS: Fort Cavazos and JBSA to Colorado’s Five Military Installations
Fort Cavazos in Killeen — home of the III Corps, 1st Cavalry Division, and 4th Infantry Division’s higher commands — sends Army PCS moves to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever SFB, and Buckley SFB. The Killeen → Colorado Springs pairing is the highest-volume Army PCS corridor on this route.
Joint Base San Antonio: Air Force and Space Force PCS to Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, and Buckley SFB
Joint Base San Antonio — encompassing Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis — sends Air Force and Space Force PCS movers to Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, and Buckley SFB in the Colorado Springs and Aurora areas. Medical Command and Cyber Command orders also route through this corridor.
Texas Technology and Energy Professionals Moving to Denver’s Growing Corporate Sector
Lockheed Martin Space, Raytheon Intelligence and Space, Ball Aerospace, L3Harris, and Northrop Grumman operate major Colorado Springs facilities. DFW defense technology professionals and Austin software engineers accepting Colorado Springs or Denver positions regularly ship vehicles on this corridor.
Houston Energy Sector: Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and DJ Basin Professionals Moving to Denver
Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Devon Energy are all active in the Wattenberg and DJ Basin north of Denver. Texas oilfield professionals from Houston and Midland accepting Colorado upstream roles regularly ship vehicles on this corridor, particularly for positions in Greeley, Fort Collins, and the Denver energy corridor.
DFW and Houston Executives Shipping to Colorado Ski Country Second Homes
Vail, Aspen, Telluride, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, and Crested Butte — draws second-home and timeshare owners from DFW and Houston who prefer a vehicle on site for the season rather than renting. Late November shipments from Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, and Frisco to Vail and Steamboat Springs coincide with ski resort openings.
Texas Outdoor Enthusiasts Relocating for Colorado Lifestyle
year-round skiing, hiking, cycling, and mountain access within 45 minutes of Denver — attracts Texas residents seeking an escape from the Gulf Coast heat and humidity. Fort Collins, Boulder, and the Denver tech belt collectively receive consistent Texas relocation traffic from professionals in their 20s–40s seeking an active lifestyle.
What Makes the Texas–Colorado Auto Shipping Run Different
Waco → Denver: The Table’s Cheapest Pair at $750 Standard
Waco to Denver at approximately 870 miles and $750 Standard is the table’s cheapest pairing. Waco’s position on I-35 puts it 170 miles north of Austin, 97 miles south of Dallas — a position that eliminates nearly 200 miles of southward approach mileage compared to Houston. The I-35N carrier routing from Waco runs through Oklahoma City (approximately 270 miles from Waco), then north through Kansas on I-35/I-135 toward Wichita, connecting to the I-70W corridor into Colorado. The result is approximately 870 total miles — well within the sub-$775 pricing tier.
San Antonio → Fort Collins: The Table’s Most Expensive at $1,075 Standard
San Antonio to Fort Collins at approximately 1,280 miles and $1,075 Standard is the table’s most expensive pair. San Antonio’s southward position adds a 275-mile I-35N approach run before any northbound progress toward Colorado begins. Fort Collins, at the northern end of Colorado’s Front Range (65 miles north of Denver), adds Colorado approach mileage beyond the Denver baseline. The combined effect compresses both the departure and delivery positions toward maximum distance.
The Two Carrier Routes: I-35N/I-70W vs. I-25N Through Raton Pass
Texas-to-Colorado carriers primarily use two routings. The I-35N/I-70W corridor runs from Dallas/Houston north through Oklahoma City, then Wichita, Kansas, then west on I-70 through Salina and Colby into Colorado — entering the state at Limon (160 miles east of Denver) and continuing to Denver, then I-25N to Fort Collins or I-25S to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. This routing is preferred for DFW, Waco, Tyler, and East Texas origins. It avoids mountain passes entirely.
I-25N Raton Pass: Winter Risk and South Texas Routing
The I-25N corridor runs from San Antonio or Austin northwest through New Mexico, crossing the Colorado border at Raton Pass (Trinidad, CO) and continuing north through Pueblo and Colorado Springs to Denver. This routing is generally shorter for South Texas origins headed to Colorado Springs or Pueblo — but Raton Pass at 7,834 feet is a winter commercial vehicle closure risk November through April.
Vail Pass and Grand Junction Deliveries
Grand Junction sits on the Western Slope of Colorado, accessed via I-70W through the Rocky Mountains from Denver — passing Vail Pass (10,662 ft) and Glenwood Canyon. This routing is the I-70’s most dramatic and most closure-prone segment. Commercial carriers heading to Grand Junction, Vail, Aspen, or Glenwood Springs must negotiate Vail Pass and Glenwood Canyon, both of which close multiple times each winter for weather, rockfall, or accidents. The Frisco (TX) to Grand Junction pair at $1,000 Standard reflects this extra routing complexity.
Winter Transit Buffer: I-70 Glenwood Canyon and Vail Pass Closures
Add a 1–2 day transit buffer for all Western Slope deliveries November through April. Booking Expedited or Rush for Grand Junction or Vail deliveries during winter is strongly recommended to maintain dispatch priority if a pass delay occurs. Booking Expedited or Rush for Grand Junction or Vail deliveries during winter maintains dispatch priority if a pass closure occurs.
Colorado Springs: The Densest Military Delivery Zone in the Corridor
Colorado Springs receives more military PCS deliveries from Texas than any other single Colorado city — and for good reason. Fort Carson (Army, 4th Infantry Division), Peterson Space Force Base (Space Operations Command), Schriever Space Force Base (GPS and satellite control, 30 miles east), NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain Space Operations Center, and the United States Air Force Academy are all within 40 miles of downtown Colorado Springs. On-post delivery to Fort Carson and on-base delivery to Peterson SFB and the Academy require confirmed base access credentials at booking — confirm address, sponsor information, and access protocol before dispatch.

Texas and Colorado Auto Shipping Zones Along the I-35N and I-25 Corridors
Texas-to-Colorado auto transport runs 870–1,345 miles depending on origin and destination. The cheapest pairs come from Central Texas (Waco, Temple) — positioned closest to Oklahoma via I-35N. The most expensive come from South Texas (San Antonio, Laredo, Corpus Christi) and far East Texas (Port Arthur) where approach mileage accumulates before any northbound progress. Colorado delivery zones range from the Southern Front Range (Pueblo, Colorado Springs) and Denver Metro through the Northern Front Range (Boulder, Fort Collins, Loveland) to the Western Slope (Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Vail, Aspen).

Open vs. Enclosed Car Transport on the Texas–Colorado Route
Open Transport and the Texas Summer Protocol
Open transport is appropriate for virtually all Texas-to-Colorado shipments. Military PCS from Fort Cavazos and JBSA to Colorado Springs installations; Texas technology and energy professionals relocating to Denver; and Fort Collins or Boulder lifestyle movers all ship open. The I-35N/I-70W corridor is heavily traveled with excellent northbound carrier availability. Texas summer pickup (June–September) requires the corridor’s critical heat protocol at the Texas departure end: quarter tank, remove all personal items, medications, electronics, and aerosol cans before the carrier loads. This protocol is non-negotiable at all Texas origins June through September. Colorado delivery in summer requires no heat protocol — Denver and the Front Range have no equivalent summer-staging heat risk.
Open Transport Recommended for Most
- All military PCS from Fort Cavazos (Killeen) or JBSA (San Antonio) to Fort Carson, Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, or Buckley SFB
- Texas technology and energy professionals relocating to Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, or Colorado Springs
- Standard daily-driver vehicles, SUVs, pickups, and trucks
- All Texas origins, all Colorado Front Range and mountain destinations
- Texas pickup June–September: full heat protocol required at all TX origins
Enclosed Transport
- DFW and Houston executives shipping high-value SUVs and luxury vehicles to Vail, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, or Telluride ski country second homes — peak November–January
- High-value exotics and collector vehicles
- Vehicles with particularly low clearance on mountain approach roads
- Typically 40–60% more expensive than open transport; confirm availability for winter mountain resort routes
Door-to-Door Car Shipping: What to Expect in Texas and Colorado
Pickup in Texas
DFW Metro and Central Texas
Standard door-to-door pickup throughout DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Irving, Garland, Frisco, Arlington, Denton) and Central Texas (Waco, Temple, Killeen, Austin). Fort Cavazos (Killeen) on-post housing: confirm base access credentials at booking. JBSA on-post housing (Lackland, Randolph, Fort Sam Houston): confirm access at booking. Off-post Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Harker Heights addresses: standard door-to-door. Texas heat protocol June–September at all origins: quarter tank, no personal items, no medications, no electronics, no aerosol cans — confirmed before carrier loads. DFW dense residential addresses: confirm commercial carrier staging if gated or narrow-access community.
Greater Houston and Southeast Texas
Standard door-to-door throughout Houston metro (Conroe, Sugar Land, Pasadena, League City) and Southeast Texas (Beaumont, Port Arthur). Texas summer heat protocol June–September applies at all origins. Port Arthur’s position 270 miles east of Dallas adds significant approach mileage — book Port Arthur shipments to Colorado 3–4 extra days ahead to account for the extended eastern Texas carrier approach to I-35N.
East Texas and South Texas
Standard door-to-door pickup throughout East Texas (Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Texarkana) and South Texas (Laredo, Corpus Christi, McAllen, Harlingen, Mission, Brownsville). Texarkana is the table’s closest East Texas origin to Colorado at ~895 miles to Denver — I-30W to Dallas then northbound. South Texas origins (Laredo, McAllen, Brownsville) are the table’s longest-approach pairs; Mission → Fort Collins at ~1,345 miles is among the corridor’s longest runs. Book South Texas origins 5–7 days ahead minimum; Expedited recommended for any fixed Colorado delivery date from South Texas.
Delivery in Colorado
Denver Metro and Northern Front Range
Standard door-to-door delivery throughout Denver metro (Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Westminster, Thornton, Englewood, Centennial, Broomfield) and Northern Front Range (Boulder, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Windsor). Buckley Space Force Base (Aurora) on-base delivery: confirm base access credentials at booking. Off-base Aurora, Centennial, and Parker addresses: standard door-to-door. University of Colorado (Boulder) and Colorado State University (Fort Collins) area residential deliveries: confirm carrier staging for campus-adjacent addresses.
Colorado Springs and Military Installations
Standard door-to-door delivery throughout Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security-Widefield, Manitou Springs, and Woodland Park. Fort Carson on-post housing delivery: confirm base access, housing address, and sponsor information at booking — carrier must enter through base gate with access approval. Peterson Space Force Base and the United States Air Force Academy: confirm on-base delivery protocol at booking. USAFA Preparatory School and permanent-party housing: confirm with base access office before dispatch. All off-post Colorado Springs addresses are standard door-to-door with no access requirements.
Mountain Resort and Western Slope Delivery
Mountain resort delivery — Vail, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Telluride, Breckenridge — requires special coordination November through April. Narrow resort roads and limited staging mean carriers may deliver to a designated staging location (parking lot, base village) rather than a private driveway. Confirm staging protocol at booking. Vail Pass (I-70, 10,662 ft) and canyon segments can close for commercial vehicles in winter storms — allow a 1–2 day transit buffer. Grand Junction and the Western Slope: standard door-to-door at Grand Junction, Montrose, and Durango; allow 1-day buffer for Glenwood Canyon closures.
Colorado Vehicle Registration for Texas Arrivals
Colorado requires registration within 90 days of establishing residency. Visit a Colorado DMV office with your out-of-state title, proof of Colorado insurance, and proof of Colorado address; a VIN inspection is required; emissions testing applies in Denver and Boulder Front Range counties. Cancel your Texas registration once your Colorado plates arrive.
Preparing Your Vehicle
Before Texas pickup: remove all personal items, disable car alarms, note current mileage and document pre-existing damage with date-stamped photographs from all four corners. Texas pickup June–September: quarter tank maximum, remove medications, electronics, aerosol cans, plastic bottles, sunscreen, and cosmetics — vehicle interior temperatures during summer staging can reach 150°F+. Colorado delivery: confirm staging conditions with the carrier at booking, particularly for mountain resort deliveries November through April where pass closures may require staging timeline adjustments.

Texas to Colorado Car Shipping — FAQ
How much does it cost to ship a car from Texas to Colorado?
Waco to Denver is the cheapest main-table pair at $750 Standard (~870 miles). Dallas to Colorado Springs runs $825. Most Houston-area to Denver shipments run $925. San Antonio to Fort Collins is most expensive at $1,075 Standard (~1,280 miles). Use the instant calculator for your specific origin and destination zip codes.
How long does it take to ship a car from Texas to Colorado?
Waco or Temple to Denver: 3–4 days. Dallas or Fort Worth to Colorado Springs or Boulder: 3–5 days. Houston to Denver: 4–5 days. San Antonio, Corpus Christi, or Laredo to Colorado: 4–6 days. Mountain resort deliveries (Vail, Aspen, Steamboat Springs) November through April: add 1–2 days for potential pass closure delays.
I’m doing PCS from Fort Cavazos (Killeen) to Fort Carson (Colorado Springs). How do I book?
Book immediately on receipt of orders. Use the Killeen → Fort Collins pairing ($875 Standard) as a distance proxy, though your actual delivery is Colorado Springs — confirm Fort Carson on-post delivery at booking with your sponsor address and base access information. Use Expedited or Rush for any firm Colorado report date. Texas heat protocol June–September applies at the Killeen pickup end: quarter tank, no personal items, no electronics.
Will mountain pass closures affect my shipment?
They can, for certain routes and seasons. Raton Pass (I-25 at the New Mexico–Colorado border, 7,834 ft) can close for commercial vehicles in winter storms November through April, affecting carriers taking the I-25N routing from South Texas. Vail Pass (I-70, 10,662 ft) and Glenwood Canyon close multiple times each winter for weather or rockfall, affecting Grand Junction, Vail, and Aspen deliveries. For Front Range deliveries (Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Pueblo), the I-70W corridor from Kansas avoids these passes entirely — no mountain pass risk. Add a 1–2 day transit buffer for any mountain resort or Western Slope delivery November through April.
When is the best time of year to ship a car from Texas to Colorado?
October and November offer the best combination of value, weather, and carrier availability. Summer PCS and corporate relocation demand has peaked, and the ski season surge has not yet begun. Texas October pickup is excellent with no heat protocol. Colorado October delivery is excellent statewide with no pass weather concerns yet. For mountain resort destinations specifically, target October or early November before the ski-opener demand spike in late November.
Do I need enclosed transport for a ski-country delivery in Colorado?
Enclosed transport is recommended if you are shipping a high-value luxury SUV, exotic, or collector vehicle to a mountain resort second home — particularly to Vail, Aspen, or Telluride. Standard open transport is appropriate for most vehicles going to ski country, including everyday SUVs, crossovers, and pickup trucks. Mountain resort roads in winter can expose open-transport vehicles to road salt and brine spray from snowplows; enclosed eliminates this exposure.
What do I need to register my Texas car in Colorado?
Register within 90 days at a county clerk and recorder’s office or at DMV.Colorado.gov. A VIN inspection is required for all out-of-state vehicles before registration. Bring your Texas title, Colorado insurance, and payment for 2.9% state use tax plus county registration fees. Emissions testing required in nine Front Range counties including Denver, Arapahoe, Adams, Jefferson, Broomfield, Boulder, Douglas, Larimer, and Weld. Colorado Springs (El Paso County) and Pueblo do not currently require emissions testing. Colorado driver’s license required within 90 days — Texas license surrendered. Military on PCS: exemptions may apply at all Colorado installations.
