I've used Direct Express several times. This latest trip was the best experience yet. Seasonal Pricing Guide: Georgia to Ohio

Georgia to Ohio peaks June through August with the military PCS cycle out of Georgia’s bases, professionals and graduates moving north to Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, and students bound for Ohio State and Case Western. November through February is the best value window, when relocation demand cools on both ends of the I-75 corridor.

Georgia to Ohio car transport truck with a full load depicted in a montage in all four seasons

Period Season What to Expect Booking Notes
Jan – Feb Best Value / Winter Window

January and February are the corridor’s lowest-demand, best-value months. Georgia pickup is mostly clean, though metro Atlanta sees occasional ice storms that can briefly snarl the I-75/I-85 interchange. Ohio delivery can involve winter weather on I-75 and I-71 through the Great Lakes snow belt. The I-75 spine stays open year-round.

Best value. Book 5–7 days ahead. Metro Atlanta rare ice event: 1-day buffer. Ohio delivery in winter: 1-day buffer during Great Lakes snow. No heat protocol either end this season. Fixed dates: Expedited.
Mar – May Spring Ramp / Corporate & University

March through May sees rising demand as Ohio’s corporate and healthcare hiring accelerates and the spring relocation cycle begins. Georgia professionals accepting Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati roles book March–April; students moving to Ohio State, Case Western, and the University of Cincinnati book April–May. Occasional late-season Ohio snow possible through March.

Rising demand. Book 7–10 days ahead. March: possible 1-day Ohio snow buffer. April–May: excellent conditions both ends. Fixed corporate start dates: Expedited. University move-in: book 10 days ahead.
Jun – Aug Peak Demand / Military PCS & Heat

June through August is peak demand, driven by the military PCS summer cycle out of Georgia’s bases — Fort Moore (Columbus), Fort Stewart (Hinesville), Robins AFB (Warner Robins), and Fort Eisenhower (Augusta) — plus summer relocations north and the late-August Ohio State and University of Cincinnati move-in. Georgia summer pickup is hot and humid — plan for heat at loading.

Peak demand. Book 10–14 days ahead. PCS out of Fort Moore, Fort Stewart, Robins, or Fort Eisenhower with firm report dates: book immediately on orders, Expedited or Rush. Georgia summer pickup: leave a quarter tank, remove heat-sensitive items.
Sep – Oct Fall Migration / Active Shoulder

September and October stay active as fall corporate relocation and the steady Georgia-to-Midwest professional flow continue. Conditions are excellent at both ends, and October is among the cleanest months on the corridor before winter weather concerns begin in Ohio.

Active demand, good value. Book 5–7 days ahead. Excellent GA and OH conditions September–October. Fixed Q4 start dates: Expedited. Flexible timelines: Standard.
Nov – Dec Best Value / Holiday Gap

November and December offer the year’s best pricing as relocation demand bottoms out. Georgia pickup stays operationally clean; Ohio delivery logistics need more planning as winter arrives on I-75 and I-71. The holiday carrier gap runs December 15–January 5.

Best value. Book 5–7 days ahead. Ohio winter delivery: 1-day buffer for major Great Lakes snow. Holiday gap December 15–January 5: Expedited for firm December Ohio delivery. Year-end moves with Q1 start: Expedited if vehicle needed by December.

Who Ships a Car from Georgia to Ohio — and Why

The Georgia to Ohio corridor runs year-round, driven by a few consistent groups of shippers.

Military PCS: Fort Moore, Fort Stewart & Robins to Ohio Posts
Georgia has one of the heaviest military footprints in the country — Fort Moore (Columbus), Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield (near Savannah), Robins AFB (Warner Robins), Fort Eisenhower (Augusta), and Moody AFB (Valdosta). Outbound PCS moves to Ohio posts like Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton run on firm report dates — book immediately on orders and use Expedited or Rush.
Corporate Transfers & Healthcare Talent to Ohio
Ohio’s corporate base recruits from the Southeast — Nationwide, Huntington, and JPMorgan Chase’s operations hub in Columbus, plus Intel’s New Albany fabs; Progressive, Sherwin-Williams, KeyCorp, and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland; and Procter & Gamble, Kroger, and Fifth Third in Cincinnati. Physicians, researchers, and faculty recruited by Cleveland Clinic and Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center relocate north on firm start dates — often Expedited.
University Students & Faculty Moving to Ohio Campuses
Ohio’s research universities pull students and faculty from Georgia every year — Ohio State (Columbus), Case Western Reserve (Cleveland), the University of Cincinnati, Miami University (Oxford), Kenyon, and Oberlin — with the heaviest vehicle-shipping surge during late-August move-in. Georgia’s own universities feed a steady northbound student flow each year.
Returning Midwesterners & Reverse Snowbirds
Midwesterners who spent a stint in the Sun Belt, plus reverse snowbirds heading back north for family or work, ship vehicles up this corridor — heaviest in spring and fall. Many pair a one-way shipment with a flight rather than driving the I-75 run themselves.

What Makes the Georgia–Ohio Auto Shipping Run Different

A few geographic quirks shape pricing and timing on the Georgia to Ohio corridor.

Georgia Car Transporter delivering to 50 something couple
The I-75 Spine: Atlanta Straight to Cincinnati & Dayton
The primary Atlanta–to–Ohio routing runs the I-75 spine north through Tennessee and Kentucky into Southwest Ohio. Atlanta to Cincinnati at roughly 460 miles is the shortest run on this corridor, and I-75 is one of the busiest carrier highways in the country, with excellent northbound availability year-round.
Atlanta: The Southeast’s Mega-Hub Origin
Metro Atlanta sits at the I-75/I-85/I-285 junction — one of the densest carrier interchanges in the South. Carrier availability out of Atlanta and its suburbs (Sandy Springs, Roswell, Marietta, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Smyrna, South Fulton) is excellent; dense downtown and Midtown cores may need staging for 75-foot haulers at pickup.
Coastal Georgia & Savannah: The Longer Feed to the Spine
Savannah and the Georgia coast feed onto the I-75 spine via I-16 west to Macon before turning north, so coastal origins add mileage getting to the Atlanta-line corridor. Savannah serves SCAD, Hunter Army Airfield, and nearby Fort Stewart at Hinesville, and stays hot and humid deep into fall at pickup.
Ohio Delivery: Southwest Ohio First, Northern Ohio Farthest
Cincinnati and Dayton sit closest to Georgia on the I-75 spine and deliver a day sooner; Columbus is a short I-71 hop off the spine; Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, and Youngstown in Northern Ohio are the farthest and longest deliveries — Atlanta to Cleveland runs roughly 715 miles. Dense downtown cores (downtown Cleveland, the Short North, Over-the-Rhine) may need staging.
Georgia Pickup Heat, Ohio Delivery Snow
Georgia summers are hot and humid at pickup — leave a quarter tank and remove heat-sensitive items before loading. At the Ohio end, winter lake-effect and Great Lakes snow on I-75 and I-71 can add a 1-day buffer November through March; build in a buffer day for any firm winter delivery date in Northern Ohio.

Open vs. Enclosed Car Transport on the Georgia–Ohio Route

Both methods are available on virtually every Georgia to Ohio lane. The right choice comes down to your vehicle’s value and the season.

Open Transport — Recommended for Most
Carries 7–10 vehicles on an open-air trailer — the same method used to deliver new cars to dealerships. Most cost-effective, with excellent availability on the high-volume I-75 corridor out of Atlanta. Well suited to standard sedans, trucks, SUVs and minivans. Your vehicle is exposed to road dust and light weather, which is normal for this type.
Enclosed Transport
Your vehicle travels inside a fully covered trailer, protected from debris and winter road spray on I-75 and I-71. Typically costs 40–60% more than open. Ideal for luxury, classic/collector, sports and custom-paint vehicles — including Atlanta’s deep luxury and exotic-car market. Fewer enclosed carriers operate, so book earlier.

Our honest recommendation: for a daily driver or a vehicle worth under $60,000, open transport is the right call on virtually every Georgia to Ohio move. For a classic, exotic or sentimental vehicle, the enclosed premium is worth the protection.

Cancel your Georgia registration and surrender Georgia plates once your Ohio plates arrive.

Preparing Your Vehicle

For summer pickup in Georgia, leave no more than a quarter tank, remove heat-sensitive items, and avoid leaving the vehicle in direct sun at a staging location above 95°F. Remove all personal items, disable car alarms, and document existing condition with date-stamped photos from all four corners. No heat protocol is required at the Ohio delivery end.
