Car Shipping for Delorean DMC-12 It would be hard to imagine if anyone hears the name 'De Lorean' and does not think about Back to the Future. It is surprising that with such name recognition that this model didn't remain in production for longer than it did. The De Lorean DMC-12 is a Northern Irish sports car that was manufactured by the De Lorean Motor Company from 1981 until only 1983. It is most commonly known only as the De Lorean, the DMC-12 is really not necessary for identification. This results from the fact that it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 famously featured gull-wing doors with a brushed stainless steel body. Needless to say, it made its Hollywood debut in the film Back to the Future.

The first prototype of the model appeared in March of 1977, and production officially began in 1981. The first model rolled off the production line on January 21 at the DMC factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. Not that the model was in production long enough to think that changes were even made, but indeed they were. The hood was altered, as were the wheels and the interior. Around 8,583 DMC-12s were made before production unthinkably fizzled in late 1982. Final production took place in early 1983. Today, only about six thousand De Lorean Motor Cars are believed to still exist making them quite valuable and sought after by collectors. When creating his company and looking for capital, John De Lorean negotiated with many celebrities to sway them to back the new De Lorean car and the company. Johnny Carson was given a De Lorean and invested in DMC as well as Matthew Reilly, Patrick Swayze, Jim Varney, James Bourne, Howard Johnson, and Chevy Chase. But, even with this impressive line-up, it looks like things can still go wrong. Goes to show that showbiz cannot sell everything.
