Toyota 4Runner

The original Japanese manufactured Toyota 4Runner was introduced to the American market as a pickup truck for the 1989 model year. Since its premiere, it has undergone several major changes and cosmetic upgrades. Today, the 4Runner is sold as a midsize Sport Utility Vehicle with a variety of trims and options available, and is popular among consumers for the level of quality typical of all Toyota brand vehicles and the outstanding reliability maintained over the years. The initial 4Runner available was a two door design, first developed in 1985, with a five speed manual transmission and offered little options. In 1990, Toyota rolled out an updated version with a several new trim styles, some of which were offered four doors and an automatic transmission, as well as numerous add on options including a sun roof, tape deck, air conditioning, power window and door locks and an anti lock braking system. The third generation was unveiled in 1996, in which the 4Runner received a complete makeover and the addition of an upscale Limited trim to the lineup, which features a sleek leather interior and alloy wheels. The first redesign of the twenty first century occurred in the 2003 model year, when it received several standard and optional feature upgrades in an effort to keep up the pace with ever advancing technology. An AM/FM stereo with compact disc and cassette became an across the board standard feature, and a navigation system was made an option. In 2004, a rear-view back up camera became available to compliment and enhance the navigation system, and optional third row seating in the Limited and SR5 trims, to accommodate up to seven passengers and the needs of a larger family. The many standard safety features in recent generation models include standard anti lock brakes, driver, passenger and side airbags, traction and stability control and an anti-theft system. The Toyota 4Runner was chosen as a "best pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2006. The 4Runner is a prime competitor in the SUV circuit for good reason, considering that it offers a superb level of safety and dependability, coupled with power and sophistication.
