Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG

The SL 65 AMG model offers 604 hp from its twin-turbocharged 6.0 liter, 5,980 cc V12 engine at 5500 rpm. It also has an acceleration time from 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds, although, faster has been achieved by some auto magazines. Also, as with the other Benz models, it has a limited top speed of 155 mph. And all this will not come for cheap, as it retails at $179,720 as of the 2005 model. The Mercedes-Benz R 230 automobile was first introduced in 2001. It was sold as the SL-Class convertible, which replaced the R 129. This whole Class, the SL-Class, is a series of luxury automobiles that means Sport Light. The name first appeared on the 1954 300 SL many years ago. Designed by AMG, which is the engineering genius of Mercedes-Benz, the SL 65 AMG is a pumped up track version of the German auto maker's top-of-the-line SL 600 sports roadster. Essentially, take the already impressive SL 600, and make it ridiculous. The 65 badge on the car means power, as the most recent model had a 612 horsepower, 6.0 liter V12 engine with twin turbochargers. Like almost all of the AMG models, the SL 65 AMG is a limited production car and coveted by Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. By making these cars in only limited editions, Benz is preserving the uniqueness and demand for the auto. This is proving to be a very nice sales and marketing strategy. Mercedes-Benz owes a lot to AMG and they are very lucky that they acquired AMG in 1999. Production very quickly climbed from 500 cars a year to 20,000 AMG vehicles in 2005. Of course, AMG can thank Benz for giving it a host of buyers that have open arms and open pocketbooks. The United States has seen a great influx of the AMG autos. In fact, half of those models just listed were delivered to the United States.
