Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG

The main engine in the Benz E 55 AMG is a 5.4 L V8 unit, designated the M113. True, it carries the "55" designation, however, this engine comes in two configurations. The first engine configuration is found in the C 55 AMG, the CLK 55 AMG and the SLK 55 AMG. It is a naturally aspirated V8 with 360 PS (355 hp/265 kW). The second configuration is a similar unit but with a decidedly competent Lysholm type supercharger manufactured by IHI, and it is found in the rest of the AMG 55 models. The recorded and thus published output according to Mercedes varies from 476 PS (469 hp/350 kW) to 517 PS (509 hp/380 kW) depending on a variety of methods for power measurements and different ECU programming for national legislations. The model is a product of Mercedes-AMG, the tuning arm of the Mercedes-Benz car company. Mercedes-Benz bought AMG in 1999 and this has proven to be a very smart move. Production climbed from 500 cars a year to 20,000 AMG vehicles in 2005. This is also exciting for drivers in the US, as half of those models were delivered to the United States. AMG was founded in 1967 by former Mercedes engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in a town near Stuttgart called Großaspach. Thus, the name of their company was born. The company name, "AMG" is an acronym that stands for: Hans Werner Aufrecht (A), Eberhard Melcher (M) (these were the partners), and Großaspach (G) (Aufrecht’s birthplace). This was not exactly the most technical of names, but their products certainly make up for it. The E-Class has proven to be the best-selling Mercedes-Benz model worldwide. It is famous both as a luxury sedan and for multi purpose vehicles in a number of countries. Anyway one looks at it; the E 55 AMG is a powerful vehicle.
