Chevy Express Cargo 3500

This model first made it to the market in 1961 and has proven to be quite popular. It started out on the Corvair platform, and is still being made under the Express name. There are also some additional packages that are available such as the Cold Climate Package, the Convenience Package, the Smoker's Package and the Trailering Equipment Group. Also an optional driver-side 60/40 split door can be added alongside the one on the passenger side. In 2007, the 2500 model was dropped along with the V6 engines. It faces its strongest competition from the Ford Econoline series of vans. The Express has also seen some other uses such as being quite popular and utilitarian as a passenger van. It is available to seat anywhere from 8 to 15 passengers. This has made it very useful for churches, small schools, clubs and even for very large families. Other uses for the Express Cargo 3500 include being used as a very capable tow vehicle, ambulance or as a shuttle bus. This model is thus obviously mostly sold to fleet buyers and very infrequently purchased by the general public. In 2007, the NHTSA gave the Express a five-star frontal impact rating, and with few van options out there, both the Express and its sister model, the Savana, have secured nearly 50% of the market segment. For the 2005 year, there were almost no changes in the Express Passenger Van. There are a number of versions being offered such as the 1500, the 1500 All-Wheel Drive, the 2500, which seats 12, and the 3500, which seats 15. The 1500 Express Cargo Van is equipped with a Vortec V6 engine. The 1500 AWD features a 5.3L Vortec V8 pumping out 285 hp and the 2500 and 3500 models are equipped with a 6.0L Vortec V8 producing 300 hp. Further, the Express offers a fully converted, compressed natural gas system or bi-fuel system using either compressed natural gas or gasoline.
