Car Shipping for Renault Alliance The Renault Alliance was a 2 or 4 door sedan, released in June 1982 as a 1983 model. It was branded as a Renault, but the car bore AMC's logo on the rear window decals. Not that it really mattered given that the Alliance appeared on Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 1983 and was the 1983 Motor Trend Car of the Year. Furthering the offerings, the Alliance was available as a convertible between the years 1985 and 1987. In the 1987 model year, the Encore, which was an Alliance-based hatchback, was renamed the Alliance hatchback. The Alliance itself was based upon the Renault 9/11, but received its exterior designing from AMC's Richard Teague.

For the final 1987 model year, a limited production, high performance model version of the Alliance was badged the Renault GTA. It was offered as a 2-door sedan or as a convertible and had a 95 HP 2.0 L engine. The Alliance, on the other hand, used Renault's antiquated C-type OHV engines in 1.4 L or 1.7 L displacements. It also included a basic suspension design that resulted in a somewhat bland driving experience. The Alliance did make it that AMC had the opportunity to field a new compact car without the expense of its design and tooling. Nevertheless, the alliance with Renault did exact a heavy price on AMC, as they were required to drop its line of commercial and military vehicles as a result of Renault's interest in the firm. Things were further made worse by the lack of mechanically integrity of the model. Despite the coveted Car of the Year award, the car did not live up to expectations of owners. For example, the 1986 Consumer Reports Annual Auto Issue surveyed owners after five years of ownership and the 1983 Renault Alliance scored the worst ratings in "Engine", "Clutch", "Driveline", "Engine cooling", "Suspension", "Exhaust system", "Automatic transmission" and "Manual transmission" ratings.
