Car Shipping for Datsun 280zx The Datsun 280ZX, also known as the Nissan 280ZX was a sports coupe produced from 1978 to 1983. This marked the second generation of the Z-cars, replacing the Datsun 280Z in late 1978. Later down the road, the 280ZX would be replaced by the Nissan 300ZX in 1984. Nevertheless, while it was still around, the 280ZX was praised and appropriately awarded Motor Trends Import Car of the Year for 1979. Unlike many other models at the time that were merely rebadged versions of the previous line, the 280ZX was a complete redesign, retaining only the L28 engine and other driveline components from the 280Z. Both the 2-seater and the 4-seater (2+2) designs were available. And for the very first time, the 2+2 was a new design, as opposed to being a stretched version of the 2-seater.

Given the oil crisis of the late 1970s, the designers were thinking about how to improve fuel efficiency. This of course is something that hopefully designers are again doing today. Respectably, Nissan focused on improvements over the first generation Z on fuel economy, emissions, and aerodynamics. In addition, the higher value of the Japanese Yen, and high fuel prices meant the Datsun 280ZX had to be targeted to a higher clientele, which placed it in competition with the Porsche 924. This meant luxury features such as power windows, and a high-end audio system were standard. This seemed to work and the Datsun 280ZX seemed to attract quite a following even from celebrities. Paul Newman raced a Datsun 280ZX, and starred in a series of commercials advocating seatbelt safety in 1981. Additionally, Steve Wozniak, inventor of the Apple, Apple II and Apple IIGS, also starred in a Datsun 280ZX commercial in 1983. His tagline was "It's Awesome". And awesome the 280ZX turned out to be.
