Car Shipping for Austin-Healey Sprite MK V Donald Healey designed a small open sports car that was offered as the Austin Healy Sprite MK V. British Motor Corporation (BMC) announced the release of this vehicle in 1958, at which time it was a small, low cost sports car intended to fill the hole in the market left by the small pre-war Austin seven sports cars. The design was based on the Morris Motor Company A-series engine and used as many components from existing cars as possible to keep the cost as low as possible. From 1966 to1971 the specifications on the car are as follows: a 1275 cc A-Series I4, 65 hp (48 kW) at 6000 rpm and 72 ft·lbf (98 Nm) at 3000 rpm. It appears that these components were not enough to lure drivers to make orders, seeing that the Sprite was cancelled in 1971. For the final year of sales it was sold as the simply the Austin Sprite. Some of the Midgets, which were released a few years later, share the same body. These such vehicles are humorously called "Spridgets" by classic car buffs. If you are lucky you may be able to witness one of these classics at a show or showroom around the world.

The Mark IV and Mark III MG were close cousins of the Sprite. They however, contained a larger 1275cc engine, among a few other cosmetic changes. Most notable though is the change from a removable, boot-stow able convertible top to a permanently affixed, manually foldable top. Furthermore, the larger engine lost some of its advantage through the use of smog pumps and other emissions requirements in the United States. It seems this is the price that is paid in order to ensure cleaner air and better health for those near or around such vehicle. Of course, there is somewhat of a backlash from those who are much more concerned with the performance of the automobile and less concerned with air quality.
