Auto Transport for Volkswagen Karman Ghia The Karmann Ghia was a two-seater sports car launched by Volkswagen, but was designed by the Italian firm Ghia, and built by the German automaker Karmann. In total, over 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced between 1955 and 1974. The model was the product of a contract between VW and Karmann to build this car. Karmann then in turn contracted the Italian firm Ghia for the sports car design. Ghia took an already created, but unused design and tweaked it to fit on a slightly modified VW Beetle platform. In the early 1950s, Volkswagen was manufacturing small, fuel efficient and reliable automobiles but as the world returned after World War II, buyers began to demand more stylish and graceful models. Thus, Volkswagen set out to produce an car to satisfy the demands of post-war automobile buyers.

The body of the Karmann Ghia was handcrafted and thus was significantly more expensive to produce than the assembly line Beetle. One interesting option introduced in 1963 was an electrically operated sliding steel sunroof which was a feature taken from a Porsche model that was introduced it in 1961. The styling was more squared, versus the curved appearance of the original Karmann Ghia, which turned out to offer more interior and cargo room. This upgraded model turned out to be a bomb with its low production numbers. Production ceased in 1969 after 42,505 units were built. However, today, the Type 34 is considered a semi-rare collectible and is known to be a fine driving vintage Volkswagen. On the popular culture radar, the Karmann Ghia starred in the closing scenes of the film Kill Bill, as Uma Thurman's character drives off in a blue convertible model of the car. Further, a pink Karmann Ghia is driven by Molly Ringwald who plays Andy in the film Pretty in Pink.
