The Toyota Van was manufactured by Toyota and was offered worldwide in a multitude of versions. It featured a sharply sloped front, which was in contrast to the upright flat front common in other similar Japanese vans. The Toyota Van was the first mid-size van, such as the present day minivan, before the release of the Chevrolet Astro in 1985 and the thereafter-released Ford Aerostar in 1986. Further, the Van was released at the same time as the Dodge Caravan, which would prove to be tough competition. The American model was officially known as just the Van, although it was the same model as the Space Cruiser that was available in Japan and Europe, and the Tarago model that was being sold in Australia. In Sweden, the Van was sold as the Toyota Model F. The rear wheel drive versions were imported to the United States from 1984 to 1989, and the four wheel drive versions were imported from 1987 to 1989. Things were coming to a close though, and the Toyota Van was replaced in the United States by the Toyota Previa in 1991.

It must be noted though that Toyota must have a unique marketing department. They launched a Wonderwagon ad campaign in the 1980s that advertised the Van as the "Toyota Wonderwagon". This ended up leading to some confusion. As it turns out, only the passenger models were called the "Wonderwagon", where as the cargo versions are referred to as the "Cargo Vans". Anyhow, not that this has been cleared up, the engine was placed between and behind the front seats, which left a gap behind the front seats. This illogically makes servicing the vehicle a challenge since the engine cover must be removed in the passenger compartment. Perhaps the marketing department was responsible for that as well.
