Auto Transport for Mercedes-Benz ML 500 suv Launched in the 2002 model year, the Mercedes-Benz ML 500 sport utility vehicle replaced the ML 430, which had previously been in the automaker's lineup for three years prior. The main and most significant improvement over the ML 430 was an upgrade in power. The ML 500 came with a 5.0-liter, 288-hp V8 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. For the 2006 model year, this was increased to 302 hp and a seven-speed transmission. As one would expect with a SUV from Mercedes, the ML 500 came with a long list of standard features, including a CFC-free automatic climate control system with an electrostatic dust filter. Not many people can claim they have that anywhere, not even in their vacuum. There was also a control panel for managing the audio, climate and GPS satellite systems, there were heated eight-way power front seats, beautiful leather upholstery, lovely burl walnut trim, soft and lovely velour carpeting, electronic cruise control, super secret privacy glass, an anti-theft alarm system to keep the neighbors awake, keyless entry to deter burglars and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. Over the years, other standard features, options, and special packages were added to upgrade the ML 500's appearance, comfort level, power and off-road capabilities. They really did not miss a lick with this model.

All the bells and whistles were available and it seems that if someone could conceive it, Mercedes could make it happen. Despite early negative press about quality control, the M-Class became a huge sales success in the United States. In fact, only the C-Class and E-Class sell better in the US. In size, it is slotted below the G-Class. The ML 500 was built in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, at the same time as its opponent, the Lexus RX. This marked a shift at Mercedes-Benz in becoming a global player; while it had plants outside Germany before, they merely built copies of German models.
