Auto Transport for Ford Escape When Ford named the Escape, were they meaning to imply that it would help you escape from things around you, or that you should escape from the car? Perhaps this thought was never considered during the focus groups. Nevertheless, the Ford Escape, known internally as U204, is a compact crossover SUV sold by the automaker Ford Motor Company beginning in the 2001 model year. It is priced below the Ford Explorer perhaps because of the bad moniker. It marks Ford's first entry into the crossover SUV segment, as many other companies introduced their first crossover SUVs at that same time. Pontiac came out with the Aztek and Hyundai came out offering the Santa Fe. The Escape can be found being sold in Europe as the Ford Maverick, which is decidedly a better name. This model was jointly developed with Mazda, in which Ford owns a controlling interest, and for better or worse, was released simultaneously with the Mazda Tribute. Drivers looking for something a little nicer can turn to the more upscale version, the Mercury Mariner, which was introduced for Ford's Mercury marquee in the 2005 model year. And, for the Earth friendly, a hybrid version was released in 2004.

The Ford Escape is built upon the Ford CD2 platform, which is in turn based on the Mazda GF platform. This platform was also used by the Mazda 626. More on the hybrid is just in - it is 75% more fuel-efficient than the regular Escape according to the Environmental Protection Agency and was the first sport utility vehicle available to the public with hybrid technology. Unfortunately, Ford really didn't get much credit for his milestone and that is very heartbreaking. In continuing with their seemingly Earth friendly outlook, Ford showed in January 2006, at the Washington Auto Show, a prototype for an Escape Hybrid that would allow E85 fuel to be used.
