Auto Transport for Dodge Rampage Well, you have to give Dodge credit for the creative naming of this model. The Dodge Rampage was a compact pickup truck based on Chrysler's L platform and was first released as a 1982 model. It was later joined by the similar and also creatively named Plymouth Scamp. Total production only occurred from 1982 to 1984. The Rampage was an addition to the Dodge Omni family, borrowing that car's chassis and the front fascia from the fit Charger variant. It was offered with a 2.2 L carbureted straight-4 engine with 96 hp (71 kW) and a curb weight of around 2400 lb (1089 kg). The first year sales were a little sluggish due to the 4-speed manual transmission. Nevertheless, performance was improved with the introduction of a 5-speed manual transmission in 1983. The load capacity of the Dodge Rampage came in at 1,145 lbs (520 kg), earning it a true "half ton" rating. This made it favorable to both General Motors' Chevrolet El Camino and the Volkswagen Rabbit Sportruck.

The Dodge Rampage was only able to stay in the game on account of its fuel efficiency and modest price. The Rampage's front wheel drive configuration added to its deficiencies, as a front wheel drive layout is not usually used for trucks. However, the front wheel drive and rear leaf spring layout did lend itself to another Dodge product, the ubiquitous minivan. The Plymouth Scamp, the sister model to the Dodge Rampage, was only sold in 1983, making it quite a collector's item today. Dodge had the confidence to resurrect the Rampage name at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show. This newly released concept car is again a front wheel drive pickup, but is as large as the full-size Dodge Ram. It is powered by the 5.7 L Hemi V8 making it a much talked about model. Hopefully, when this comes to market it will fare better than its previous namesake.
