The full-size Ram 2500 4dr short bed has made itself notable over its 14-year history by developing into a roomy and comfortable truck as well as being a performance showoff. When it was launched in 1994 as part of a new heavy-duty lineup, the Ram 2500 was the middle version in a group of pickups that were categorized by weight. There was a half-ton model, a three-quarters ton model and a one ton model. It was available as a regular two-door cab in either rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive. The Dodge Ram series is a full-size pickup truck line from DaimlerChrysler's Dodge brand. The name was first used in 1981 on the redesigned D Series, though it peculiarly came from the hood ornament used on 1930s and 1940s Dodge trucks. They have lived up to their expectations beautifully as the Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year twice. The second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, and the third-generation Ram Heavy Duty won the award for 2003.
Due to the high demand for this powerhouse, it is manufactured at a number of places around North America. One such location is the Saltillo Truck Assembly in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, as well as the Saint Louis Assembly North in Fenton, Missouri and lastly the Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan. The first-generation Ram trucks, introduced in 1981, kept the previous generation's model designations of ‘D’ and ‘W’. The ‘D’ stood for rear wheel drive while the ‘W’ Power Ram was meant to indicate four wheel drive. To add to the optional trims, a Standard cab, a "Club" extended cab, and a crew cab version were offered along with 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed lengths. Outwardly, the first-generation Rams were remade versions of the previous generation Dodge D Series pickups that dated back to 1972. The newer model though introduced wraparound tail lamps, single rectangular headlamps, and squared-off bodylines.
