Subaru FF-1 Auto Shipping Rate
The Subaru FF-1 G, which was also sold as the 1100 and 1300, was a compact car from the 1970s. It replaced the FF-1 Star as a front wheel drive vehicle with a standard Subaru flat-4 engine. Further, a fully independent torsion bar suspension and rack and pinion steering were remarkable for the time. As early as 1972, Subaru was ranting and raving about the FF-1's ability to handle itself in bad weather. The FF-1 was priced at just over $2,000 and was worth every penny given that it achieved 29 mpg. Needless to say, the Subaru quickly became one of the top-selling import cars in the United States. Furthermore, the Subaru 1000 was the first front wheel drive Subaru produced by Fuji Heavy Industries. All previous Subaru models such as the Subaru 360, the Sambar and the 450 had been rear engined, rear wheel drive cars. As was standard in the early front wheel drive cars, the FF-1 included inboard drum brakes up front. As it turned out, unlike many other automakers, Subaru would retain this unusual design into the seventies, which was far later than many if not all other manufacturers. Additionally, another unique features of the FF-1 was a lack of a heater core. The heating system took its warmth directly from the radiator and from a hybrid suspension system that used torsion bars in combination with coil springs. This was very much like the front suspension of the Subaru 360. The FF-1 was superseded by the 1100, which was also known as the Star in the United States and in other export markets. This switch took place in the early seventies. Later, the Subaru FF-1 Star was a product of the original front wheel drive Subaru. The FF-1 was marketed as the Star in the United States in 1970 and 1971, and was replaced by the FF-1 G in 1971.
