Mitsubishi 3000GT Auto Shipping Estimates
Following the impressive showing of the Mitsubishi HSX concept car at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi decided to develop the new GTO as a technically superior sports coupe to compete with the Mazda RX-7, the Nissan 300ZX and the Toyota Supra. They also decided to resurrect the GTO name, and the car went on to serve as Mitsubishi's flagship for the remainder of the decade. To end any confusion, it was known as the Mitsubishi 3000GT outside Japan. This was on account of the fact that the company was concerned that buyers and critics alike would object to the suggestive nameplate with regards to the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Pontiac GTO. However, apart from of its badge, every car was built on the same production line at Mitsubishi's plant in Nagoya, Japan. In fact, the Mitsubishi GTO is the name of two different sports cars built by Mitsubishi Motors. The first was sold from 1970 as a two-door hardtop coupe with modern American muscle car styling, straight-4 engines and rear wheel drive. When production ended, the GTO name was not used for fifteen years. That was until Mitsubishi brought it back it for their new flagship sports car, the Mitsubishi 3000GT. This model in turn was also sold by Chrysler in North America as a Dodge Stealth from 1991 to 1996 with only minor variances. The first generation 3000GT integrated many of Mitsubishi's performance-enhancing technologies, such as full time all wheel drive, four wheel steering, a tune-able exhaust and electronically controlled suspension. Design wise, the cars featured pop-up headlights, which were pretty flashy for the time being. Further, the European version was only available as a twin-turbo. It was also though equipped with headlight washers. Now whether or not that made it a better car is all in one's interpretation of features.
