Buick Skyhawk

There have been two small automobiles offered by Buick called the Skyhawk. The first which was offered from 1975 until 1980 was the RWD Chevrolet Monza clone. This model was available as a 3-door hatchback. The second was offered from 1982 until 1989 as the FWD Chevrolet Cavalier clone. This model was available as a 2-door sedan, a 4-door sedan or a 4-door station wagon. The Chevrolet Monza replaced the Chevrolet Vega, with three years of overlap. The Monza was based on the same GM H platform as the Vega making it interesting that both models were available at the same time. The Monza name might sound familiar because Chevrolet previously used it as a separate model name within the Corvair lineup. As it turns out, the Chevy Monza and the many other models on the market just like it were not designed to replace the Vega. It seems that rather, they were to be the platform for GM’s Wankel engine. The project however never made it from conception to actually being offered in the marketplace so the Chevrolet Monza can be found with traditional I4 and V8 engines instead.

On the other hand, the Chevrolet Cavalier is really not an original automobile and in fact it is just Chevrolet’s version of the compact GM J platform. It seems that the Cavalier was released with the intent of competing with quality imports such as the Honda Accord. Oddly enough, considering the tough competition, it was one of the most popular cars in the United States and Canada from its release in early 1981. This left the Cavalier, which was available as a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and 4-door station wagon, to fill in the gap in the mid-sized car segment. The Cavalier was welcomed as a car that the entire family could fit in and not be crammed packed, and yet, not be excessively large. Additionally, the Cavalier faced very few mechanical problems in its early days, which really helped to build a solid and loyal customer base. Auto transport rates for the Buick Skyhawk are available here using our original shipping quote calculator. Also learn more on this page about the Buick Skyhawk.
