Senate Bill 3483 - Motor Carrier Protection Act of 2010

Increases the freight forwarder and broker's bond from $10,000 to $100,000. The bill aims to clean up the automobile transport business by making it difficult for unscrupulous and unethical car shipping brokers to conduct business.
Not surprisingly, nearly every freight forwarder and auto shipping association is diametrically opposed to passage of the automobile transport bill and are actively fighting it.
However, the owner and president of Direct Express Auto Transport, Mike Rupers, is in favor of the bill and applauds Senator Snowe for protecting the public. There are too many fly by night car shipping brokers who muck up the industry and give those conducting a proper and ethical business a black eye. Senator Snowe's proposed legislation will go a long way to rooting out the bad apples.
Hard working auto shipping carriers and drivers, especially independent owner operators, should support this vehicle transport reformation bill because next to the general public, it protects them most.
